ENEL-MED
why ENEL-MED scope of services ENEL-CARE
Over 60% of the Polish population suffers from chronic venous insufficiency. Dilated, visible small vessels or varicose veins affecting legs pose not only cosmetic but also health problems. The best results can be achieved if the treatment is started at an early phase of the disease. In this early phase, conservative treatment is usually sufficient and involves special graded pressure stockings and phlebotropic drugs. However if there is visible vein dilatation, instrumental methods are necessary.

In cases of tiny "spider veins" our doctors recommend sclerotherapy (special injections): a special drug is injected into the lumen of the vessel, which results in vessel occlusion. The treatment is basically painless (the needle used for injection is only slightly larger than a hair) and gives good cosmetic results (no visible scar is left), however for a permanent effect, a series of such treatments is needed.

The latest surgical methods are used in the treatment of varicose veins of the legs. The varicose veins are removed through microincisions, thus no sutures are needed (special SteriStrip plasters are used instead) and the procedure leaves no scars or only minimal ones.

In more advanced stages of the disease, we perform a so called invagination stripping. This is a method that enables removal of the dilated vein through its own lumen. The operation requires small incisions that are done in areas where they are hardly visible. As compared to traditional methods, this technique causes less injury to the neighbouring tissues and leaves smaller postoperative haematomas, and in consequence gives much better cosmetic result.

However you should keep in mind that these procedures treat only symptoms of venous insufficiency. Causes of the condition are inborn and systemic in nature, therefore it is important to provide the patient with long-term specialist care that allows to reduce recurrence rates and to prevent complications.
